Scott Nyman PhD, ABPPDirector of Behavioral Science

About Me: I have a shared faculty role with Ascension-Genesys working with both the A-G Family Medicine Residency and the A-G Clinical Health Psychology Fellowship programs. My office is housed within the FM Residency’s outpatient clinic (the A-G Family Health Center – FHC) and I oversee the FHC psychology services and rotating psychology trainees (eg., postdoctoral Fellows and doctoral Practicum Students). I also oversee the Beh Sci curriculum for the FM residency, which includes didactics, reading curriculum, and collaborative clinics (Child and Adolescent ADHD Screening Clinic and Lifestyle Change Clinic for smoking cessation and weight loss). We strive to maintain an integrated primary care (IPC) model in which we can offer the FHC medical patients immediate psychology consultations during routine medical appointments as well as offering traditional short-term psychotherapy. I also oversee the FM Residency’s Balint Groups and assist with mentoring FM Residents’ research projects. I completed my 2-year Fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology here with Genesys and then worked locally for 4 years at the Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute, Flint MI prior to having the opportunity to return to the A-G FM Residency program in 2010 as the Behavioral Science faculty for the FM Residency Program. My wife, daughter, and I live locally in Linden, MI and keep busy following our daughter’s soccer games as well as enjoy traveling to Northern Michigan in the summers.
