Our Program

We are a three year comprehensive training program consisting of 13 residents in each class. Our program of 39 is the largest in Michigan but feels like a tight-knit family. Ascension Genesys Hospital is located in suburban Grand Blanc and serves patients in the surrounding area such as Fenton, Clarkston, Linden, Swartz Creek and more. Ascension Genesys is a community hospital but has a large academic presence. Family medicine residents have the opportunity to learn from specialists and have access to an abundance of didactic education. Our residents receive superior inpatient medical training through our own medical service at the hospital. The resident-run service provides independence and leadership over all three years of training. Inpatient medicine is supervised by our own faculty to ensure training is delivered from a family medicine perspective and scope of practice. More information can be found on our curriculum page.

In addition to our extensive medical training, we also strive to help every resident grow personally and professionally. Every resident is assigned a faculty advisor, who they meet with on a biannual basis. Faculty advisor meetings are in addition to biannual meetings with our program director. Residents are also encouraged to participate in one of our many program or hospital-wide committees.

Our Clinic

Our residents and faculty practice out of our beautiful office about 15 minutes from the hospital. The Ascension Genesys Family Health Center is located in Burton, MI and we care for patients in the Flint, Davison, Grand Blanc and surrounding areas. The office is fully staffed with medical assistants, referrals specialist, a billing department and a call center. In addition to core faculty, our residents also learn from community preceptors and in-office gynecologic and behavioral specialists. We also feature our own laboratory services and technicians. The office contains a spacious waiting room and over 45 patient rooms. Additionally, we have two dedicated procedure rooms and three OMT rooms with hydraulic tables.

Our office provides all aspects of primary care: health maintenance, chronic care management, prenatal care, pediatric and geriatric medicine and more. Common in office procedures include OMT, colposcopy, endometrial biopsy, IUD placement and removal, nexplanon insertion and removal, skin biopsy, skin lesion excision, cryotherapy, I&D and joint injection. The number of days each resident spends at clinic varies based on rotation and academic year. Residents are assigned a patient panel for whom they are the primary care physician. Additionally, our 39 residents are divided into six clinical teams. Patients may be seen by other providers on the same clinical team when needed. With this setup we are able to provide patients with appointments anywhere from same-day up to three months in advance.
